Does your student want to help others?

Hi Reader,

I want to share something a little different today... an opportunity your student might genuinely love.

As you know, I've been building Through The Waters over the past few years. We have an online anxiety course as well as a community designed to help university students navigate stress and anxiety together.

What started as a small peer support space has been growing, expanding out to university partnerships, and I now need students to help me grow it further.

So I've opened up an internship position, and I think it could be a remarkable opportunity for the right student.

Here's what makes it different from a typical internship:

It's work that actually matters to them. This isn't filing paperwork or making coffee. Interns will host our online Study Buddy sessions, help other students feel less alone, and create peer-to-peer content about mental health and academic success. If your student has ever wished they could do something meaningful with what they're learning in school, this is that.

It's supervised by a licensed psychologist. That's me. Your student will be directly mentored in areas like co-regulation, digital community-building, and psychoeducation. These are skills that are genuinely valuable in psychology, social work, education, communications, and beyond.

It counts for academic credit. I work directly with the student's university to make sure the position meets their program's internship requirements.

It's fully remote so it works whether your student is home for the summer, studying abroad, or anywhere in between. And although we're based in the U.S., we welcome applicants from outside the U.S. as well.

The internship is open for May - June, August - December, and January - May terms, at 5–10 hours per week.

The ideal candidate is a Junior or Senior (studying psychology, social work, education, marketing, communications, or a related field) with a 3.0 GPA and a genuine interest in student mental health.

Creativity and comfort on camera are a plus, since part of the role involves creating authentic, student-to-student video content.

(I'm not cool enough to be in our YouTube videos, and I want to amplify student voices!)

To apply, your student can send a brief resume and a short 1-minute video introduction (or a link to a piece of social content they've created) to hello@throughthewaters.org.

If this sounds like your student, I'd love to hear from them.

If you're not sure, feel free to forward this email and let them decide.

Warmly,
Dr. Parke

Hi Reader, Two things for you today. 1. A conversation worth sharing with your student This week I sat down with Alysa, our summer college intern, for a candid conversation about something almost every student struggles with: taking on too much. We cover: How to recognize the signs that you’re heading toward burnout The group project problem (and how to actually share the load) How to ask for help without feeling guilty Communicating with roommates Simple, practical self-care that doesn’t...

Hi Reader,This time of year can be really hard for students. Academic pressure builds. Transitions get complicated. Big questions start surfacing about majors, careers, living situations, and whether they're even on the right path. And sometimes, all of it hits at once. As a parent, it can be hard to know what to do from a distance. You want to help, but you don't want to add to the pressure. So here's what I've learned from thousands of hours working with students: The most powerful thing you...

Hi Reader, I want to share something a student wrote because I think it captures what our peer support community is really about better than I ever could: "Companionship: This was the last key… the final missing piece… I tried calling family & friends but everyone's schedule is different so they won't always be there when I need them. There's something about when someone else is there, they see you… I was literally crying at my desk in the library when I finished. I cried because it felt like...
